SEO Break-even & ROI Calculator
Work out how many extra jobs a month pay for SEO, and what return you’d get if SEO brings in more.
How Do I Calculate SEO ROI?
Divide your monthly SEO cost by the profit you make on one job. That’s your break-even number of jobs. For example, $750 a month ÷ $160 profit per job means about 4.7 jobs a month. Every job above that is profit.
| Monthly SEO cost | Profit per job | Jobs to break even |
|---|---|---|
| $500 | $100 | 5 |
| $750 | $250 | 3 |
| $1,000 | $500 | 2 |
| $1,000 | $2,000 (roof, HVAC system) | 0.5 |
How Much Does SEO Usually Cost?
In SE Ranking’s survey of 260 agencies, the most common monthly SEO retainer was $500–$1,000, and 64% charged under $1,000 a month (SE Ranking). Local prices differ by country. See our local SEO resources for more on costs.
Why Is My ROI Low in the First Months?
SEO usually takes 3–6 months to build, so the first months often run below break-even. Repeat customers lower the true break-even, because one new customer can bring several jobs a year.
Is SEO Worth It If I Only Need a Few Jobs?
Often yes. High-value trades such as roofing, HVAC and solicitors can break even with less than one extra job a month. Low-value, one-off services need more volume.
