Choose an SEO agency that tells you exactly what it will do each month, tracks real enquiries, leaves you owning every account, offers short notice periods and gives a clear £ price. The best agency for a small business isn’t the biggest. It’s the one that explains its work and fits your budget.

Owners on UKBF: “never use an SEO that prospects you”
What should a good UK SEO agency show you before you sign?
A clear list of work for each month, a free or low-cost audit of your actual business, a fair contract, and real examples of work they’ve done. If all you get is a sales call and a promise of “page one”, keep looking.
Red flags to watch for
– Guaranteed first-place rankings on Google or Google Maps
– 12-month contracts with no break clause
– The agency owning your website, domain or Google Business Profile
– Reports that only show rankings or traffic, never enquiries
– Cold emails offering SEO for £99 a month from people you can’t find any trace of
– Bought reviews, fake profiles, or “a secret method” they won’t explain
Questions to ask on the first call
1. Who will actually do the work, and will I speak to them?
2. What will you do in the first 30, 60 and 90 days?
3. How will you track calls and enquiries from Google?
4. Do I own everything you create or set up?
5. What’s the notice period, and are prices plus VAT?
How much should you expect to pay?
For one town and one trade, many UK small businesses pay between £350 and £1,000 a month. Very cheap offers often mean very little work; very expensive offers aren’t always better. Compare what’s actually included, not just the price. Our UK packages start at £399 a month, plus VAT, month-to-month.
Start with an audit
A good audit shows where you stand against the three businesses already in the Google Maps pack for your main search, and what needs fixing first. Use it to compare agencies on substance.
