Google Reviews Disappeared? Why and What to Do

Google removes reviews its spam filters think break policy: bursts of reviews, reviews from the same Wi-Fi or network, incentivised reviews, or reviews from suspicious accounts. Genuine reviews are sometimes caught too, and owners on r/GoogleMyBusiness report losing most of theirs at once. You can contact Google support, but removed reviews rarely come back. Keep asking steadily.

Google Reviews Management

Why do Google reviews disappear? Google’s automated filters remove reviews they think are fake or break the review policies. Genuine reviews get caught too. Common triggers in the UK are: – Several reviews arriving on the same day, for example after a mass text or email – Reviews left on the business’s own Wi-Fi or from staff and family – Reviews offered in exchange for a discount or a prize draw – Reviews from new Google accounts with no other activity – Links or phone numbers inside the review text

Sometimes reviews vanish for a short time during a Google system issue and then come back on their own.

Can I get removed reviews back? You can’t restore them yourself. If you think genuine reviews were removed by mistake, check the Reviews section of your profile for a “Removed reviews” or appeal option, and use the Google Business Profile support form for review appeals. Have the customer’s name, the job and the rough date ready. Not every appeal succeeds, so don’t count on it.

How do I stop it happening again? 1. Ask every customer, steadily, rather than in one big push. 2. Send your review link by text or WhatsApp after the job, so customers leave it from their own phone and data. 3. Don’t offer anything in return for a review. It’s against Google’s policy and, in the UK, the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 also bans fake and incentivised reviews. 4. Never buy reviews or use review exchange groups.

What if a competitor is attacking me with fake reviews? Flag each review from your profile using Report review, and keep screenshots. Reply calmly and briefly; future customers read the reply more than the review. If you’re being hit by many fake reviews, Google support can apply temporary protection.
